SALE OF THOROUGHBRED HORSES.

Auckland, January 4. The eighteenth annual sale of { thoroughbred yearlings bred at the Wellington Park, was held to-day, ) when twenty-seven lots realised 4,450 ; guineas, an average of close on 165 guineas. The top price of 900 guineas 1 was paid for- a brown colt by Hotehkiss from Rose of Wellington, which was purchased by Mr F. Tilley, of Fordell,Wanganui. Mr G. G. Stead, of Canterbury, paid 375 guineas for a chestnut colt by Phoebus Apollo from Armilla. Mr T. Fenton, of Westralia, bought a brown colt by Phoebus Apollo-Musket Maid for 310 guineas ; and a brown colt by Phoebus Apollo-Hilda for 340 guineas. Mr F. McManemin gave 425 guineas for a bay colt by Phoebus ApolloForrae. No others of the horses reached 300 guineas.
