A telegram handed in at Auckland as early as 7.15 reached us at three o'clock this morning, and some two thousand words were received after three o'clock, and so late that i we are unable to make use of them. Newspaper Pilfering. — We have had occasion many times to complain of the annoyance caused our subscribers by the actions of a number of contemptible youths and men, who make a practice of abstracting • newspapers, from business premises especially. Some of these persons have been detected, and the invariable. pl©a » s 'that the loan of the paper only was intended, and that it would be returnbd as soon *as read. Be that as it may, many papers are taken away altogether, and the parties who interfere in any way with the papers left by the runners are guilty of a mean impertinence at the best, while they must rest under suspicion of being probably concerned in many mean petty thefts. To appeal to the honor of this class of man and boy seems useless, and a reference to the advertisement columns will^show that other steps will be taken"" to mitigate the nuisance.
