Mr H. D. Bedford, M.H.R., under engagement by the New Zealand Al--1 liance, commenced a series of lectures on prohibition this evening. There was a fair audience, and the following resolution was carried: "This meeting is of opinion that tHe Government in introducing into Parliament such a measure as the Licensing Act Amendment Bill, 1903, manifests a regrettable desire to benefit the liquor traffic at the expense of the rights of the people, and trusts that further retrograde and partial licensing legislation will not be attempted.
