Romanoff, Seaweed, Spun Gold, Green Sleeve, Abydos. Pure Silver. A meeting of the Committee of the ' Nelson Jockey Club was held at the ! Trafalgar Hotel on Saturday evening, the President (Mr E. Finney) in the chair. Various matters in connection with the forthcoming race meeting were dealt with, and, further, it was resolved that the Garrison Band should be engaged for both days. Mr F. N. Jones was again engaged to provide and work the totalisator for the meeting. It was resolved to nominate Mr Finney as representative of the country clubs in the Nelson-West Coast district at the Racing Conference to be held in Wellington in June. Mr R. Mcßae brought up to the question of fixing a minimum weight for hacks and suggested that it should be 7st 71bs, as by the present system weights wore allotted horses at which it was impossible to get jockeys, and consequently these horses were penalised compared with the higher-weighted horses. He had spoken to Sir George Clifford on the matter and that gentleman believed that a recommendation would have a good effect. It was resolved to make the^recommendation. ,__ _. ,
