Englishmen V. South Island. Dunedin, February 22. The match Lord Hawke's team r.South Island resulted, as expected, in a win for the visitors, by an innings and 130 runs. The weather was beautifully fine, with a stiff northeast breeze, and the wicket was again in fine order, and should have been good for a large score. With- seven wickets down for 32 Oallaway partnered Ongley, but was soon bowled. Boxshallhit out merrily for 15, when he was bowled. Ongley, who had been at the wickets for over ah hour for 3 runs, was then caught . .by. Bosanquet, and the innings closed for 51. Following on, the South Island team" made a slightly better stand, ; the bowling not proving quite so deadly. Reese was the -first to retire, bowled by Thompson, and 30 was up for one wicket at luncheon. On resuming, Siedeberg was almost at once caught, and only 5 were added when Wilson shared the same fate. |The . partnership of Hbwden and Boxshall was profitable, the' latter putting on 40 : in quick style afterj being let off id the slips.
