TOWN SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above* named Committee was held last night, when there were present— Rev J P>. Kempthorne (chairman), Rev. ,f H. MacKenzie, Messrs Hewson, Treacher, Ancell, Webley, Boyes, and The minutes were confirmed, and the correspondence considered. In the matter of the bicycle shed at the Central School it was resolved to leave same in the hands of the Headmaster (Mr Gibbs). A number of cases of measles were reported. - The average attendance at tne schools were shown as follows: Brook Street, 80 per cent ; Central School, 87 4 Toi To Valley, 89.79; Hampden Street, 84.74; Tasman Street, 79.7; Haven Road, 82. Resolved, to draw the attention of the Health Officer to drainage from a stable in Hampden street. The Chairman reported that some boy had entered the Tasman' Street School after school hours, and had taken two knives, upset , a drawer and cupboard, and scribbled on a blackboard. Accounts were passed amounting to£23 23 8d. s ' The irregular attendance of some children caused some discussion. It was resolved to get some circulars printed to send to the parents, and also to give notice of legal proceedings in some of the flagrant cases of continual absences from school.
