THE HEALTH OF THE BOY DADID GORDON BURNS.

Sib,— As an Englishman, 1 love fair play, and therefore, although hitherto an Oppositionist, I must first state in justice to Mr Graham, that he had nothing to do, so far as I am aware, with my examination of the boy Burns. The lad came to me, without any note or introduction, for a certificate of health to get employment in the railway workshops. I, not knowing that he had previously been to any medical man, examined him on Peptember 13th, and can vouoh that he was in sound health, and that his eyesight and hearing were quite up to the standard; there was no obvious defect in either. H« has been a

member of the Juvenile Foresters, of, which I am surgeon, for the last three or fou? years, during which time he has only! received five days' sick pay, and that waaj for a trifling ailment. I understand that' he has bten only taken "on probation.'' i and" that fit the end of a certain period he! will be re-examined in Wellington— l await the s resultof that examination with perfect confidence. His .former employers and others are emphatic as to the aeuteness of his 'sight and hearing, and I will conclude I my .letter with the appended certificate.
