MR. GRAHAM AT RANZAU.
Mr Graham addressed the electors at Eanzau last evening*, when there were over fifty electors present. Mr F. W. Smith presided, and referred to Mr Graham as a most careful and diligent member.
Mr Graham's address did not differ materially from his other speeches, and at the conclusion he was heartily applauded. On the motion of Mr C. Schwass, seconded by Mr Henry Fanzelow, a hearty vote of thanks was declared carried unanimously amidst applause.
Mr Graham during his address referred |to a challenge issued by the proprietors of the ' Mail,' that they would contribute £10 to the Hospital if he could produce a certificate stating that the boy David Burns had passed the fourth standard, and to the further challenge that they would double the amount if he could produce the certificate on Saturday afternoon. He added that the ' Mail ' knew this to be impossible, as he had had to send to Wellington for it, and he could not get it here until Monday morning. He would make it public as soon as he could after he had received it. It looked as if the ' Mail ' were trying to wriggle Out of it. He had been challenged to produoe a certificate stating that the boy had passed the fourth standard, and he was going to do it. He wished to be able to have the doctor's as well as the teacher's certificate on Monday. He said it was contemptible to descend to personalities from politic?, and it was contemptible to fight elections on such paltry matters.
