Chess Tournament.
Dcnedin, December 29. At the chess congress B. A. Cleland and J. Mouat met in the fourth round, when Mouat adopted the French defence, and Cleland was mated on the 31st move. This win makes Cleland the champion of New Zealand for 1899.
