Progress of Taranaki.

New Plymouth, September 3. At the Chamber of Commerce meeting the Chairman's report of the progress of the district was very flattering. The exports had greatly increased, thanks to the dairy industry. The Chamber received a deputation appointed by a public meeting, with the object of making an endeavor to have the shipping freights reduced. During the disoussion it was pointed out that the shipping companies would not consider the question of reduction of freights until the berthage accommodation was increased. Several speakers asserted that the harbor was in a very bad state, and eventually it was decided that a combined deputation should wait on the Harbor Board, re increasing the berthing accommodation at the Breakwater before approaching the shipping companies.
