Magibtbate'B Court.— Yesterday, before H. W. Robinson, S.M., the following cases were heard— Healy v. Cottier (Collingwood) —a claim for £17 0s 9d. Mr Harley for plaintiff. Defendant had forwarded £10, and promised to pay the balance as soon as he could. Judgment for £7 0s 9d with costs £2 Is 6d. — Evidence was taken in a Waitara case. The claim was for £11 10s, money lent, but the defendant produced a receipt showing that he had repaid £9 of the amount.

Pbobate. — In Chambers on Monday, before the Registrar of the Supreme Court, on the motion of Mr Maginnity, probate of the will of William Robert Robertson, formerly of Glasgow, but late of the City of Nelson, banker, was granted to Mrs Charlotte Elizabeth Selby, sole executrix.

The Bulleb Coach. — This coach has been delayed by the rough weather, and will not reach Foxhill till Thursday evening, instead of Wednesday, as usual, and the mails will not reach town till Friday morning.

Thb Rival Fooibaij>Cldb.— The annua meeting of this club will be held at the Foresters' Hall this evening, when those intending to join the club, as well as old members, are invited to be present. This club took a very good stand last year, and bids fair to gain further laurels this.

Dkeb-stalkikg.— We hear that Mr Percy Walker brought in on Tuesday night a splendid stag that he shot on Mr Martin Eerr's property, Motueka Valley. The stag weighed about three hundred pounds, and the head was an exceptionally fine one, for though there were not more than six points, the size and symmetry of the antlers made the head one of the prettiest yet obtained in the district.

Bey. W. A. Evans.— We learn that it is probable the Rev W. A. Evans, so well known here, will occupy the pulpit of the Congregational Church on Sunday next, and perhaps for further services.

Tendebs fob Fencing.— lt will be observed that there is an addition to Mr Banfleld's advertismeut calling for tenders for fencing on the Takaka Hills. A person will be on the grovnd to be fenced from ten-till three o'clock on Friday the 25th to show the work to be done.

Damage by Storm.— Monday night's storm resulted in a good deal of damage being done to yachts and small boats in the harbor. Mr G. Mercer's cutter yacht, the Modest Boy, broke away from her moorings and was blown ashore near the Gasworks wharf, and sustained a good deal of injury, in addition to having- some of her coppei stripped off. The yacht Secret also broke away early yesterday morning, and was drifting out of the harbor, when she was fortunately observed in time and taken to a place of safety. Captain Cox was unfortunate in having two of his boats carried away from their moorings. One of these, the Floral, was nowhere to be seen yesterday morning, but the ss Lily, on returning from Motueka, reported seeing the boat's mast Bticking out of the water as the steamer approached the entrance. The boat had drifted outside and then sunk. Several other boats were more or less knocked about. Fortunately the Bocks road sustained but little damage.

Petboleum at Cheviot. — The Lyttelton • Times ' has received specimens of petroleum obtained at Cheviot, and says " from what can be gathered, the whole of the Seaward range is impregnated with petroleum for a distance of over twenty miles from the mouth of the Waiau to the Hurunui river, as it has been found in several places. The report of Professor Skey, the Government Analyst, upon samples sent up to him, is as follows : — " These are almost absolutely colorless, and appear to be of a light character. They are undoubtedly of first class quality ; in fact almost too good to be named petroleum. One distillation of this oil should, by taking off the very lightest oils adapt it for ordinary use in kerosene lamps, as & good illuminant."

The Late Mb W. B. Gibling.— Many Nelsobians will remember the late Mr Girling, who was some years ago in Messrs Wymond and Co.'s establishment in this city, and who married a daughter of the late Mr William Brent, of Nelson, The " Marlborougb Express" says :— " The news of Mr Girling's death has been received throughout the district with very great regret. Mr Girling was held in much esteem by all the old residents with whom he had business transactions, and his generosity and liberality to all the churches and charitable institutions will not soon be forgotten."

Bouses Vjsitos.— Quite recently (says "Pelorus Guardian"), Mr J. Jackson, of Tory Channel, was fortunate enough to capture a strange visitor to these shores, in the shape of a monster turtle, measuring Sit 4in long and 3ft 6in wide. Mr Mathie-

son, of the Masonic Hotel, Havelock, who is related by marriage to Mr Jackson, is endeavoring to obtain the turtle, with the intention of exhibiting it, the proceeds from which exhibition will be handed over to the Cottage Hospital fund.
