Auckland, September 4. A two-storey hotel at Gumtown, Mercury Bay, was burned down last Sunday. The fire originated in one of the lodgers' bedrooms through a light. Nothing was saved, and the damage is £1450. The hotel was owned by Hancock and Co., and occupied by Michael O'Connor. The furniture and stock were the 1 property of James Macfarlane. The building was insured for £1,150 in the Commercial Union.
