MR E. H. TAYLOR'S MISSION. Last evening at the Theatre Mr E. H. Taylor 'gave his lecture on " Ten Nights in a Bar-room." Mr W. T. Bond presided, and briefly introduced the lecturer. Mr Taylor kept his audience deeply interested as he told the story and pointed out the lessons to be adduced from the thrilling and pathetic scenes connected with Slade's saloon at Cederville. He said he knew the story was a true one, for he had known some who had been present at the closing of the saloon, and he appeared that evening before his audience in a coat which had been worn by a gentleman on that memorable occasion. It was announced that Mr Taylor, by request, would repeat his address on the wreck of the ss Wairarapa on Sunday evening, and would also speak on the Brunner mine disaster. As it will be the last address of the present series, no doubt the Theatre will be crowded, The members of the Order are reminded of the united social to be given at the Foresters' Hall at eight o'clock this evening. The Grand Lodge Degree will be conferred on those entitled to receive the same at half -past seven sharp. To-morrow evening Mr Taylor will, by invitation, give his second address at Brightwater. The Eechabite Tent will meet half an hour earlier on that evening. On Sunday afternoon Mr Taylor will give the Scriptural story of " Joseph " at the Salvation Army.Barracks. As was done last evening, at the lecture on Sunday night at the Theatre the views illustrating the subjects will be shown by means of limelight, manipulated by Mr Pollard. |
