Wellington, Maroh 4. • About 100 applications have already been reoeived from volunteers aoxioos to form part of ths contingent to go to England to ttend the Qa9en's Diamond Jubilee. A volunteer infantry company has been formed ia Wellington to be known as the Eelbarne Rifles, after tbe title of Lord G!a9^ gow's eldest bod. A fatal aooident occurred at Waikanae this morning, when the end of the boiler at CampbeU'3 sawmill blew out, and a yonng engine driver named Norman MoKay, aged 21, was eoalded, death ensning in two hours. At tbe Convention of the Women's Christian Temperanoe Union this morning the recommendations of the Resolntions Committee having been read and adopted, the New Zealand officers were eleoted bb follows : — President, Mrs Sohnackenberg, Auckland ; corresponding Seoretary, Mies Powell, Palmerston North ; recording Secretary, Miss L. M. Kirk, Wellington ; Treascrer, (appointments left to Executive). Saperintendcn'.s oi department were also appointed.
