Auckland Amateur Athletic Meeting.
Auckland, February 12. Wretched weather was experienced for the Amateur Championship meeting, rain falling all the afternoon. There were about 500 present, and there was exoellent raoing and the times were wonderfully good considering the Btate of the ground. Holder in the Hurdles put op a New Zealand record while Patriok in the 100 Yards ran it in evens and had the traok been dr/ would no doubt have pat up almost a world's record. The following are the results : — Mile Bicycle H*ndicap.— Brook (Auokland) 160 yards, 1; R linger (Auckland) 150 yards, 2; Dexter (Auokland) 55 yarda, 3. Three or four f 11 owing to the greasy nature of the traok. Won easily. Time 2 mine. 48 l-s_h sees. Long Jump.— Cuff (Auckland) 19ft OJin 1 J Laurie (iuokland) 18ft 4£in, 2 ; Lepa (Auokland) 18ft 3in 3. 100 Yards Championship — Patriok (Wellington) 1 ; Holder (Wanganni) 2 ; Oliphant (Aulkland) 3. Wen by fifteeen inohes. Time 10 seoe. 150 Yards Handicap— Bowser (Auokland) 5£ yards, 1 ; Morton (Auokland) 7 yards, 2 ; Sobnaeur 5-J yards, 3. Mils Flat Championship — MoKean (Auoki lani) 1; Reynolds (Auckland) 2; Hamilton (Nap.c?) 3. Won easily. Time 4mtna 48 eecs. T«o Mile Bieyc'e Handioap — Thompson (luokland) 200 yards, 1; Oraham (Auokland) 130 yards, 2; Dexter 110 yards, 3. Won easily ; two fell. lime Smina 56 2-stb Beconds. 120 Yarda Hurdles Championship — A. Holder (Wanganui) 1 ; W Martin (Auokland) 2; T Robert B (Auokland) 3. J Moir (Ohristcharch) also started but fell. A good raoe ; won by a yard. T. 111 916 sees. Putting tbe Weight— O'Connor (Auokland) 36ft 3 iin, 1 ; Madill (Anokland) BQU lin 2 ; Rhodes (Wellington) 34ft 6_in 3. Kallender (Auokland) also competed and threw 33ft 5-Jin. Three Mile Walk — Creamer (Auoklani) 1 ; and Wilson (Auokland) 2 ; were the only starters. Won easily. Time 23m in 1 sec. 600 Yards Handioap— Webber (Auokland) 21 yards, 1 : Hamilton (Napier) 2 ; McDonald (Auokland) 3. Good race. Thompson (Aack'and) was leading but fell exhausted at the tape. Time Imm 21 3-s th sec. Quarter Mile Championship— A Holder (Wanganoi; 1 ; T Roberts (Auokland) 2; G_ Holder (Wanganui) 3. Herbert (Wellington) MoKeen (Auckland), milner (Nelson), Oliphant (Auokland), and Buchanan (Auckland) also ran. McKeen anl Herbert fell after three hundred yard?. Holder went tt tha front and won rather easily. Time 52 2-tb Beeo nds. Tbe Three Mile Bioyole Handicap is postponed nntil Saturday. At tbe end of the day the points for the banner were :—Auokland 45, Wanganui 16, Wellington 7, Hawkes Bay 1.
