In further exsmination by Mr Hutchison, Mr Watson declined to eive information in regard to Mr John Ryley'a estate as it wou'd be disclosing private affaire. Under examination by Mr Maslin, Mr Watson said tbat in the light cf subsequent eventi ba did not tbink sufficient provision bad been made by tha Co'onial Bank frr b.d and doubtful debts. Witness believed that Mr Henry McKenzie waß quits ihe b st man available in tho Colony fur tbe potion of General Manager of the Bank of New Zealand. Besides, there was a moral obligation upon tbe Directors to appoint Mr McE^rzie, as he waß always led to believe that he would receive tho appoint inen\ Witnesß would have exercised bis power of veto in the case of any otber man than Mr McKenzia without first consulting tbe Government. No officer cf standing in the Bask of New Z?aland had lost his position or emolument through amalgamation with tbe Colonial Bank.
