Leonard Harper
W_i_.iNaTON, September 28. Leonard Harper was brought before tbe Oourt and formally remanded to Ohrißtchuroh at 10.30 on Monday. Bail was allowed himself in £500, and two sureties ia similar sumß. The Hon 0. C. Bowen and Mr T. 0. Williams became bondsmen. Inspector Pender and Harper leave for Christobarob this evening. Later. Leonard Harper left by to-nigbt's boat for Lyttelton, Inspeotor Pender also being a passenger. Warrants are in Inspector Pender's possession relative to eight separate oharges of fraduleat conversion ln addition to that on whioh he was brought up to-day, viz, of unitappropriation af £1500 entrusted to him by J. H. Robin ; Harper is oharged with haviDg convert fd to his own usa £1751 entreated to bim by William Milep, Ellen Milea, and Eliza Hurst ; £1000 belongiug to William S. Passmore ; £1000 belongia* to William M. Barnes ; £750 of Mary Louis Webber's, being part of a trast of £2000 ; £3000 of William Hotham; £275 of Thomas A. Hopes, btiog patt of a tra.t of £2000 ; and £2850 of Hugh H. Gillett, being part of a trust of £5000.
