INSURANCE CASE.
Melbourne, August 14. An important insurance case has been before the Supreme Court. Tbe insurer sued tbe new Oriental Banking Corporation for a return of tbe life policy f-^r £1000 effeotsd for the b?nefh of bis wife and ohildren, aad he claimed £300 damages for detention of the policy which matured in 1893 aad had been deposited with tbe bank in in 1-39, as the plaintiff alleged, for s»fe keeping. The defendants corporation refused to surrender the polioy on the grounds tbat the phintifl was largely indebted to the bank, and thai it had been placed with them aa Beouri.y. Mr Justice Hedges, in giving a verdiut for the plaintiff, sa d under tbe Married Woman's Property Act a policy eff-otsd for the benefit of a wife and children created a trust and formed no part of the estate of a debtor.
