AN OLD INSCRIPTION

Ad£li»idb, August 14

An interesting discovery has been made at Bradshaw's Creek in the Northern tetritor . A tree has been found carved with tbe date October 9, witb the figures 15 or 79, and signed Fred. Adams., Southampton. Other characters of which the writing is indistinct have also baen discovered. It is thought that the inscription rtust have been cut either in the year 1775 or 1815. As both dates belong to an earlier period thsn any recorded exploration of the territory, probably the inscription was made by a ship's crew vi seaoh of water. At spring tides a v*bfol of light draught oould navigata tbe creek to the vicinity of the tree, which is a hundred miles from the ooatt, or it mi?ht bave been a shipwrecked orew in search of focd.
