The evidence of a grand-daoghter showed that Mrs Dean represented herself as childless, and very anx ous to adopt the child, whom she registered as h.i own. She received £9 10a with the chid. Later. The inquest on the body of Eva Hornsby, the infant found buried in the garden near Dean's house, at Winton, was continued today. The evidence showed that Minnie Dean got the child and £6 10s from its grandmother between Milburn and Cl.rendou on the 2nd of May, that ehe left the traia on the offsitle, and that (he child was not seen afterwards alive. Letters which Mis Dean wrote to Mrs Hornsby were abo produced, and the child's clothing found in Dean's house was idtntified by Detective MoGrath. The woman admitted tbat she got the child between Invtrcargill and Danedin in the month of May, but taid she was acting as agtnt for a person at Milton, to whom Bhe handed it. Evidenoe was given that she had oo baby at Milton, and did not leave her seat at tbat station.
