BISHOP MORAN.
A good priest gone— a man of blamelees life, A faithful shepherd, loved by all his flook, A soldier brave, wbo fought 'gainst ein and strife, A sentry who bept watch upon that Book Wbioh towers above the fitful eea of doubt And on its highest peak still keeps ablaze The fire of faith tbat shot its bright rays out To light the natioos in tbe olden days. That mitred head whioh now lies low and cold Wft3 ever raised to Him who reigns supreme : Tbongh gentle, yet hie vo'ca and pan were bold In battling againßt vioe. KoiUe dream Was immortality to that c.e^r mind ; The world to bim, v. Ihoat the Master's rule, Would soon become a pit wberein mankind Wonld sink and wallow deep in passion's pool; 1-he animal would ttiumph o'er the soul, And all our nob'eet aspirations die ; Then greed, not God, would be men's highest goal, And charity's pure Btream would soon run dry. So thought the pastor who haß g"ne to deep, And what he thought be proved by wotd and doed ; Ue earned tbe harvest ho has gone to reap. He won respeot from men of every oreed. Thomas Bbachen.
