At the Supreme Court, James Whitehead pleaded guilty to three indictments for having stolen sums of money amounting in tbe aggregate to £170, ihe funds of the Kaiapoi Working Men's Club. He was sentehqed to three months' imprisonment on eaoh charge, the sentences to run concurrent y. Jamea Shaw Kelly, for criminal as-ault, was sentenced to four years. John Turner Heard, lately City Rate Collector, was sentenced to two years for having stolen sums amounting • o £ 130. Douglas Burnside and Joseph William Miller, found guiity of oriminal intimacy with a girl under the age of fifteen, were sentenced to twelve months and eighteen months imprisonment respectively. Tha Grand Jury found no bill in the case of Alexander Nation, charged with stabbing.
