LOWER WAKE FIELD.
There was cot a large attendance at the meeting for the eleotion of the looal committee, ody 20 householders being present. Mr J Thomas wa? voted to the chair, wbea he aeked the retiriog Secretary to read the report and Balanoe sheet. From tbe report we fi d a very large falling off in the Girls' School, vheie being only 20 Dames on the roll, with an average attendance of 14. l igeon Valley Sohool also showed a eligbt falling-off. It was thought by same that the compulsory clauses of the Act Bbould be brought into force. The balance sheet wa=t very satisfactory, and, with the report was unanimously adopted, after wbich nominations were called for. when 11 candidates were proposed, and tbe following firet 7 eleoted : Dr Pearless, 18 ; Messrs A T Bobertson, 17; T flont, 17; W M Eell, 14; J Thomae, 13 ; J Taylor, 11 ; J Bird 6; I Baigent 9 (retired ) ; E Bsigent 9 (retired) ; J Williams, 8; D Burn, 4. A vote of thanks to the retiring Committee and aleo to tbe Chairman brought the meeting to a olose The tew Committee met immediately after, when Dr Pearless was re- eleoted Chairman and Secretary. '
