Osoar Wilde waa eubjeoted to a stringent crosq-examination, with a view of Bhowing "Dorian Grey" and some articles in the magazine 'Chameleon,' with which he ifl connect sd, are of an immoral tendency. Wilde insisted they are merely an expression of artistio faculty. His letters to Lord Douglas wera prose poems, extraordinary perhaps, but not justifying immoral inter* pretation. He admitted he gave one o£ his alleged blackmailers twenty-one pounds and lunched with him in a private room after-* wards. The case waa adjourned, the de« fendant being admit. cd to bail.
