Boads.— A correspondent writes: " There is a good deal in what Mr A. Thomson said at Wakefield on Tursday night tbat the long spell of bad weather is more to blame for the state of the oountry roads than the County Oounoil. From all parts of the Oolony oome complaints of the wretched state of the roads, and in some districts the settlers cannot take their milk to tbe dairy factories. In one part of the Waikato, we are told, five large suppliers of milk are in ' the latter position, and three of them are so completely blockaded tbat they oould not with their best team get an empty waggon iv or out. The description of some of the roads in Taranaki Bhow a far worse state of affairs than that existing in the Waimea County. To put the roads in anything like deoent order the County Councils will need a muoh larger revenue than tbey have at present." ' Prepabing fob the Female Voters.— : A Wellington correspondent states that the Government aro preparing for the female franchise, and the Government Printer has been ordered to print a vast number of registration forms. Ministers intend that in future men with ; no visible means of support, or suffering from habits of drunkenness, are not to be treated as felons, but will be placed on State farms. A rise in bread is calculated to affect all olasses of society more or le3s, It would not, however, be generally admitted by the thrifty housewife tbat a riße in bread would be beneficial to her interests, but let her use " Eureka " Baking Powder according to the printed direotions on the tin, and see how the bread rises to her entire satisfaction without injuriously affecting the banking aocount.
