NEW ZEALAND HORSES IN VICTORIA.
New Zealanders have every reason to feel proud over the results of the events decided at «Flemington on Saturday last in connection with the V.R.C. Autumn Meeting. Mr W. B. Wilson's two colts, Strathmore and Zalinski, both of which were bred by the defunct Sylvia Park Stud Company, covered themselves with glory by their easy victories in tbe All-aged Stakes (of 500 soys) and Loch Plate (also of 500 soys) respectively. The iimesior; each event were very fast. Strathmore's performance was an" especially excellent one. as he ran the mile in lmin 40Jsecs, or half a secorid behind the record for Australia for that distance. The Steeplechase (of 800 soys) proved . a "soft ihing" for the ex-Wanganui, hack, Jack's the Lad; who was taken to Australia a. few months age by Mr W. H. Keith. Jack's the Lad had never won even a hack hurdle race in decent company, while running in the land of his birth; yet on being taken'to Australia he 'shows his heels to the Victorian cracks, arid also the New. Zealand Grand National Steeplechase winner, Freeman, who rani third, and won 80 ■ soys. The Auckland' sportsman, Major George, was rewarded for his enterprise in sending The Workman and Reprisal to Australia by each of these horses scoring a win (the Farewell Handicap of 300 soys and the Place Handicap of 400 soys), though they were competing- in. - excellent fields. The Workman, was steered - to victory by the ex-New Zealand jockey, Cusden, who, despite losing" the mounts on - the " Silver King's " representatives, is meeting wiih great success on other horses. Another ex-New Zealand jockey, J. -Cameron, who is well known in the Wellington district, had the mount on Jack's the^ Lad in the Steeplechase. — 'Post.'
