BISHOP'S SCHOOL SWIMMING RACES.

These races were held yesterday afternoon at Denne's bathing hole in the Maitai. The weather 1 >ok?d rather uopropitious till coon, but a l , the lime of the races being held the sun was shining brightly. The sports opened with the two heats- for the final of the Maiden Race, 50 yards ; five started in each heat. Ist heat: Hamilton ii 1, Cooke 2, Keeble 3 ; 2nd heat : Bichardson 1, Mills 2, Kirton 3 These six competed in the final with the following result :- Cookp. 1, Hamilton ii 2, Mills 3. The finish of the final was extremely close and exciting. Cooke evidently saved himself for the final contest, not swimming himself out in his heat. Between him and Hamilton the race for the prize 'was very tight, the latter's hand reaching the rope about half a seconi too late. Hamilton is to be highly commended for the plucky race he swam. Time 56 4-s:h sees. Diving for plates (12 in number), opeu to tbe lower school : Preshaw, 1 (12 plate?) ; Houiker, 2 (11 plates). Theie were four entries. Four started. Preshaw won by a yard, and Mil-s an easy second. Time, 32 3-sth eecs. Fifty Yards Consolation Handicap : Levien (scratch), 1; Kempthorne i (10 sees), 2; Kirton (3 sees), 3. Levien won easily, and Kirton pushed Kempthorne closely for second place. Time, CO sees. This evens concluded a very interesting competition, and the school is to be congratulated upoa having so many capable swimmers.
