Mr McPberson, a Labor oandidate, has been elected to represent the constituency of East Adelaide, whioh was rendered vacant by the resignation of Sir J. 0. Bray, on his being appointed Agent-General. An nnusual amount of interest was taken in the contest, whioh was praotically between labor and capital. LATJNCESTON, January 25. During a fierce Eqnall the Union Steamship Company's steamer Botomahana grounded in the river Tamar, near Georgetown, but is not in a dangerous position. An unsuccessful attempt was made to haul her off, and her cargo is being discharged. An immense bush fire threatened to annihilate the township of Dundas. A powder magazine oaught fire and exploded, tbo building being demolished. A heavy rainfall saved the town at a oritioal time.
