STORM IN THE WAIMEAS.

One of the heaviest thunderstorms ever experienced in this district occurred on Monday night, the lightning at times being very vivid, and the rain descended in torrents. The Wai-iti and its tributaries rapidly rose, and was soon running in high flood. A great deal of damage has been done to the roads, crops, etc. The approach to the Wai-iti bridge near Foxhill, on the west side of the river, has been partly washed away, stopping all traffic. A number of small bridges and culverts on the branch roads have been destroyed. The Midland Railway Company's works at Belgrove have greatly suffered by the flood, and tha crops of grain and hops have been very much injured. — ' The Colonist,' Jan. Cth.

The Recent Stohm. - One correspondent describes the thunderstorm of Monday night and Tuesday morning as " terrible," and informs us that the bridge at Belgrove was washed away by the Hood. The tremendous downpour of rain damaged the coach road in Norris Gully, on the other side of Spooner's Range to such an extent that the road is rendered dangerous for traffic, and the public are warned that they use it at their own peril, We learn that the lightning struck a house near Richmond, and that a matchbox near the window was fused, the window curtains being set on tire, but we have been unable to obtain full particulars.
