Proposed Endowment.

The Commissioner said that he jrould aek the Board to recommend that the Nelson, Institute, which included a free public library and museum, which at present had no endowment except the laud ea whioh it stood, should receive an endowment of land. He thought that the Board might well recommend the Government to give a block of land at Tarndale, Section 1 Squat* 70,16,000 acres, now rented to Messrs Acton r Adams & Lowe at £190 a year. Tbiß block had originally been reiemd as a resting place for stock, but waa not now used for this purpose, but leased by the Board. The matter had been brought under the notice of the member for Nelson City, who had promised to use his' influence with the Minister to get the grant confirmed. The Board unanimously resolved to reoomtnend tbe grant to be made.
