FOOTBALL.

OTAGO V. NATIVES.

[Per United Press Association.]

Dunedin, July 28. The weather cleared up this morning, and between six and seven thousand persons attended the football match Otago v Warbrick's team. The ground was rather stiff, and cat up considerably, bnt there was no water on it. Otago were the favorites," and justified the confidence by winning by eight points to nothing, the Natives scarcely even being dangerous. They were forced down seven or eight times, and play was only once or twice in anything like dangerous proximity to Otago's goal. The Natives showed excellent form in collaring and stopping rushed, but the passing of the local team, and their excellent play on the line out, and with scientific play in the scrum, was far superior. In the second try secured, the ball was j taken by a series of passes from the 25 flag over the goal line, the leather pausing through the hands of Croxford, Morrison, M'f. aflane, Gibson, Diomon and Stephen. At the end of the first spell the score stood—Otago six points to notbiog. In the eeoond spell the passing was not so prominent, but 'the Natives were repeatedly forced down by Thompson and Ljnoh, "who only just missed scoring, and Huntec and Thompson got tries, but no goals were kicked. The game was a most pleasant one, although there was a slight tendency on the part of the Natives to play rougher than the game it usually played here.
