BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY,
A public meeting in connection with the above Society was held at the: Provincial Hall, last night, -when his Lordship the Bishop op Nelson presided. After the hymn, " All people that on earth do dwell," had been sung, the Eev. P. Calder engaged in prayer. A portion of Scripture was read by the Eev. T. A. Cato. . . : The Chairman, after stating the object Gf the meeting, and expressing a wish that such gatherings might be held annually, called upon-Mr H. C. Dakiell, the Hon. Secretary of the Nelson Branch of the Society; to read the Eeport, after which the well-known hymn " Let -there be light" was sung. ::.; : . . .... . . .. The Eev. George Baker, the Agent for'the Society, then delivered a most eloquent and interesting address, stating fully the objects, and operations of the" Society throughout the World- . -,.".'.■ The Eev. H. J. Lewis in an able speech moved: —"That this. Sleeting desires to acknowledge with gratitude the wonderful measure of success vouchsafed to this Society in the Home and Foreign work " Seconded by Mr C. Hunter Bkown, and carried unanimously. . ■... ■ ■ The Eev. Dr Taylor moved, and the Eev. Lorenzo Moore seconded the following* resolution, which was also: unanimously adopted:—" That this Meeting pledges itself to greater exertions on behalf of a- Society whose efforts were never more needed, and never more promising, than at the.present time." . ■ . .;.■: The collection amounted to £10 4a 4d.
