It has been resolved to. establish ft Corn Exchange at Dunedin. The last escort from the Otago diggings brought seven thousand five hnndred ounces of gold to Dunedin. The new offices of the National Mutual Life Association at Wellington are to cost, with site, £25,000. When his Excellency the GoTWnor visited Kawhia, the Maori chiefs mado a . request that no hotels should be licensed in that township. | At a meeting of the creditors of Messrs J. and J. Watson, of the Grand Hotel, at Dunedin, it was resolved that the property be vested in three trustees, to be carried on for the benefit of the creditors. Thi Messrs Watson are to act as managers of the business." It was resolved that debontures, bearing 8 per cent interest, be issued for the purpose of carrying on the affair, such debentures to be paid off as the funds come in. It was stated that after full examination of the books it was gathered that the profits of the business amounted to £300 per month, and there'should therefore be no doubt of its being very shortly put on a satisfactory footing and paying 20s in the £. The ' Kumara Times' says that Marshall and party washed up last week for the handsome return, for; seven weeks work, of 148 ounces of gold. Gsesar Marshall and party also had the large yield of llOozs for twenty days" water, which is regarded as the best return on the field. In Canterbury and |Otago the sums which have been actually expended on; railway lines not open for traffic (and' sonic of them, like the Otago Central and Catlin's Biver, not likely to be for some time) are as follows :—Canterbury : Main Trunk Line, £9768 ; Interior Line, £41,856 10a 8d ; Albury branch Line, £37,826 4s 3d.
