CABINET-MAKING.

(From the,' Marlborough Express.') .' The 'Dunedin Herald's' Wellington correspondent gives tt« following a " tip " as to the next Ministry we are ■ • likely to get. He does not give it' ai ' his own opinion, but as the item of ; Wellington gossip :—"Mr Ormond, ' Premier and Minister of Education; .■: Mr Ballance, Treasurer, Stamps, and Customs; Mr Bichardson, Publio Works; Mr Stout, Attorney-General and Justice; Mr Waken* eld, Land and Mines; Sir George Whitmore, Colonial Secretary and Native Affairs." It will be noticed that of this suggested Cabinet the first four ■ Ministers are not at present in Parliament at all. Some of the Auckland papers vary this shuffling of the political cards by suggesting Mr Moss as Treasurer, Mr Hutchison as Minister for Education, Mr Eeader Wood as Minister for Lands and Minister for Mines,, and ex-Judge Fenton (who is ; to be brought into Parliament specially for the purpose) as Native ! ; Minister. . 'Labour' makes the fol- - lowing suggestion, that unless some ■.; unforseen thing happens Sir George -■ Grey and Major Atkinson will, with- ; out doubt, combine to form the next : stable Ministry. Of all the amateur cabinet-makers who are ventilating their ideas in the Press, no one seems .■ to think that Messrs Eolleston, Dick, Conolly, Olliver, or Mitchelson will come back again as Ministers; Sir William Fox is never even mentioned; and as for Mr Bryce, his mana seems departing from Europeans and Maoris alike. Our own opinion is that speculation on the matter at present is vanity and vexation of spirit.
