Mr Rolleston announced that the Governor had obtained from the Queen six months' leave of absence to visit England, and that he would shortly avail himself of the permission. Replying to questions it was stated that the Government would not amend the Representation Act so as to extend the franchise to seamen afloat; the Land Act would be amended so as to enable deferred payment settlers taking up further sections under the ,same system ; at the close of the session the Native Minister would meet Tawhiao and Eewi at Auckland to settle the difficulty re .' the King Country; an alternate tender for a weekly and fortnightly service between Longford, Hampden, and Matakitaki had been invitee1, and the acceptance of the former would depend on the cost; endeavors would be made to get the mail contractor for tbe Nelson, Westport, and Karamea mail service to agree that the steamer might remain one tide at the latter port. Sir John Hall moved as an amendment that it be issued not oftener than four times a week. He hoped ifc would be next week. ■ The Waikato Confiscated Land Bill's I second reading was moved by Mr Bryce, and was supported by Messrs Sheehan, Te Wheoro, Tawbai, Whitaker, and Sir George Grey. Agreed to. ' The Trade Marks Act Amendment Bill and Public Works Act Consolidation Bill were read a second time without debate. The reßt pf the evening was spent in Committee on the Industrial Schools Bill.
