SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.
CITY OF:NELSON.
The Provincial Hall was attended by about 120 persons on Thursday eveniDg, and the increased attendance was highly satisfactory, as showing that it was. not want of general interest in eduoational matters and elections of School Committees that had on previous occasions caußed the numbers to] be so meagre, but that it was the inconvenient hour at -rhicu they were formerly fixed,-that prevented all but a mere few attending them. Mr P. Oooke was voted to the chair, and he called upon the Secretary of the old Committee, Mr H. D. Jackson, to give an account of the alterations provided by- the late Act. Mr Jackson complied with the request, and proposed, as the best meanß by whioh to conduct the eleotion, that the name of each candidate proposed should be written on a black board, and, that when all their names had been received, scrutineers should be appointed, and that they should deliver to .eaoii householder present a ballot paper, on whioh he would write the name or names of any he intended voting for, and that the scrutineers, having collected the papers, would at once go through them, and ascertain who had been elected. Messrs J. R. Dodson, E. Hodgson, R. Hadfield, and T. H. Stringer were appointed scrutineers. The balloting resulted in the election of D. Burns, 127 ; Rev. J. Beckenham, 112; W. T. Bond, 70; P.
