Messes N. Edwabds & Co., of 32 Cornhil^ London, in their monthly circular, dated August 24th report: — Wooi/.—The third series of public sales of Colonial wool commenced on the 17th inst. The catalogue comprised 8280 bales, of which 152fi bales were from New Zealand. There was a fair attendance of buyers from all parts though France is not quite bo well represented as during the last salea. Biddings were not very animated, and resulted in a decline compared with the close of last sales, as follows :— Australian fleece lid on the average. Scoured ldtol^d „ Greasy to Id. „ Cape snow white Id „ Fleece id „ Sydney fleece of the finer kinds and New Zealand chewed the greatest reduction. The arrivals in time for these sales are 298,608 bales including 99,366 bales from New Zealand. The announcement by cable that only 1000 casks had been shipped last month from Australia has given a further impetus to prices. Leather.—The market has been inactive.—let hides and sides Hid to 13£ d; seconds 10|d to 12d^p ft. Basils are lower, 7£d to Is 3d. Hides.—New Zealand ox and cow, Ist, 5d to 6d ; seconds 4£d to 5d f ft. Wheat and Flour —To-day's quotations are the Eame as in our last; there has been an advance of 2 per quarter, hut that has again been lost. The proa pects of the English harvest have very much improved with four weeks of brilliant weather. Quotations : — Adelaide wheat 55s to 565, Now Zealand and Tasmanian 52s to 55i, and Californian 53a to 54s 6d *ffi 496 fts landed. For Adelaide on passage 54s is still obtainable. New Zealand Flour 33s to 375, and Adelade fine 35 t» 36*, and superfine qualities 38* to 39sf'280ib3 ex store. Bank rate nduosl to 2£ '$ cent on 29th July, and again to 2 *$■ ceLl oa 12th August.
