CHESS QUBEIES.

To the Editor of the Colonist.

Sir,—l am much obliged to you for ventilating the last queries, although I do not agree with the answers given by your informant, owing probably to the clumsy way in which the questions were put, but had to give in, as you were to decide the point. I certainly felt a little crestfallen, but when I saw the next number of your journal, and the answers from Mr W. Gibuon and " Tio," my feelings were quite altered, as they were so lucidly explained (with Stan ton, Hoyle, and Cassell to prove) and coincided with my own knowledge also. I was delighted, and had I wings could have clapped them. I cannot make out how the castling Mr Gibson mentions can be done unless a Bquare is left vacant between the king and rook, and if bo I am sure the correction is not a bit too soon.

Would either of the above gentlemen kindly answer the following question which I am not clear on —not having played for the last few years until lately—viz., can the king move or take through the angles?— I am, <fee, Enquires. Motueka Valley, March 31,1875.
