# * # We are not to bo held as adopting opinions expressed in correspondence which appears in our ''columns. Letters which are temperately nnd reasonably written on public subjects, we are willing togiye space to; but it by no means follows that we conc.ur.in their statements or conclusions. | To deMifyp of The Colonist. Sir,—l was much astonished'to observe that one of the candidates for the city gave it as his opinion that the messenger sent under a flag of truce by Tito Kowaru ought to have been hanged ; and I hope that the cheers which, according to the papers, greeted the startling proposition, word ironical. It were unnecessary, nay impertinent, to point out to a Nelson public how dishonorable such an action would have been. But, Sir,' think how the PhiloMaori party, who hare thrown so much harmless dirt at their countrymen, would have exulted had they been able to got h6ld of such a missile as the execution of unarmed messengers. Yours, &c, A. S. CoiHira.
