NATIVE NEWS.
In our fourth page will be found important accounts respecting the proceedings of the Natives. King Matutaera, V whose submission was made through William Thompson some time ago, has, through General Carey, requested an interview with Mr. Graham, who had formerly arranged the meeting with Thompson. We have later intelligence from Auckland, which states that on 17th instant, important official telegrams had been received from the Waikato but their purport was not rifade public. From Taranaki is an account of a slrirmish, which we published in an extra on Wednesday. It will be seen that a small party of rebel natives brought back a trooper who had gone off and got into the hands of the Maoris. Thebarty delivered themselves up, and intimated that it was the intention of the tribes around to submit to the Queen's authority. Whether this is due to the efforts of William Thompson, who is reported to have gone from Waikato on a mission of peace to Taranaki, does not yet appear; but it is more than probable that this result springs from his representations.
