CRICKET,

SPRING GROVE AND RANZAU

On Easter Monday the Spring Grove and Ransau Clubs met in a paddock at Allington, for the last time this season to play the conquering match, which terminated in favor of the Spring Grove club. The day was exceedißgly cold; a very sharp spout wind added nothing to the comfort of the bowlers or any of the players. As the shades of evening began closing around, the players and many visitors directed their step 9to the Waimea East Hotel, where a splendid dinner was prepared for them by Mr. Q,uinton Hill; about sixty dined. Everything passed off in the most agreeable man. uer, from the timo the umpires pitched the wickets in the morning until they parted in the evening. Spring Grove. First Innings. Second Inningß. A. Scott v. W. Golding for £9, the balance due for a horse.

A. Scott, sworn : In March last gave a horse to defendant for sale ; he came to me and asked what I would take for the horse—l replied, £11. He said he could get for him; told him if he could I would give him £5; he told me he had sold the horse, and got £1 deposit; he afterwards admitted he got £20 more; he gave me £12 on account.

Cross-examined by Mr. Kingdon: Did not tell Golding that all he got above .£ll he was to keep; tho arrangement was tha. L if he got £25 for the horse he was to get £h for his trouble; no other bargain was made; he did not say that the £1 was for the use the of horse and cart up and down beach. W. Golding, sworn: Applied to Mrs. Scott to know the price of the horse mentioned named 'Tommy;' he told me £11, and all over that I might take for myself; and said, 'if you only make ill I will give you something for your trouble.' I found a purchaser for it, and asked for the loan of his horse and cart to bring the purchaser up the beach. Sold it for £25 ; he afterwards objected and offered me .£2O, which I took. Paid Scott ill, the price agreed upon, and afterwards, £1. I did not get a cheque for £2Q from Mr. Askew for the horse; all I got was .£l9, which was paid by Mr. Waite. The magistrate said he should dismiss the case, the evidence being conflicting. G. Hooper and Co. v. 2homos Astcl for £l 4s. for beer supplied. Defendant admitted having two casks out of the four charged. James Hooper, sworn: Delivered one cask on November 2nd, 1855 ; another was delivered by a man named Lipscombe. Judgment for the amount of two caska, costs 3s. W. Wright v. J. Groves for £8 3s. W. Wright, sworn : Mr. Groves brought a horse to my stables on 3rd June last, and it staid there until the 23rd, when the mare died. I charged him £1 Is., instead of i'l 1%

Cross-examined by defendant: You did not bring the horse on Mr. Shepherd's account. I applied to Mr. Warnock for payment; was aware it was Mr. Warnock'a mare after it was taken ill. Never received a written order from you. Heard afterwards that you were Mr. Shepherd's servant. The Magistrate said that defendant was liable for the amount, as he took the horse to the stables; but that defendant could have his remedy against "Warnock.

Judgment for the amount.
