NELSON SCHOOL SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of this Society took place on Monday evening last, when the following report was read :—

Tho Committee, in presenting their 18th Annual Report, have unusual cause for rejoicing at tho evidences of the fruit of their labors which, through the blessing of tho Almighty, have been manifested during the past year.

The accounts received from the several branche 8 still under the society's care, are highly encouraging! whilst in the Town School a most satisfactory increase appears in the numbers attending for Sabbath instruction.

The Committee lias peculiar satisfaction in the fact that the senior classes aro well attended, and that several of the scholars who had temporarily withdrawn, have, without solicitation, returned to their school, willing either to teach or to be taught.

From these gratifying circumstances they trust that tho seeds of Divine truth sown by this institution are growing to produce fruit to the honor of Him whose word the Committee has desired to teach and publish among tho young of this favored province-?

The Central Board of Education having relieved the Society of tho charge of daily secular education, your Committee desires more than ever to take to itself the charge of distributing tho Word of God, and refering to the last report of the Bible Society, in which our colony ia justly blamed for its lack of zeal, the Committee purpose for the future to bestow its surplus funds in aid of the Bible Society, an a reference to our financial report will shew that the rents of the school buildings paid by the public Board, are sufficient for the ordinary working expenses of the institution. Additional branches have been established at Wakapuaka and Fox-hill, making, with the branches at Stoke, Hope, and Wakefield, five country schools under our society, and under its cherished system of open welcome to tho children of all Christian denominations. The looked-for accession of books to our schools and libraries should do much for our future prosperity, under God's guidance, for which may we ever pray. Balance Sheet, Dr. £ t. d.
