We were in error stating in a former I report of this case that the unfortunate man who was so brutally maltreated by his mate was named Dandow; it should have been Matthew Byrne, Also in our Teport was stated that the two other mates, CPitlock and Bryant, rushed from the tent with sticks and struck the wounded man. It should have been that they attempted to prevent the man Dandow from repeating his hellish attack. In every other essential bur'reporter's statement was correct. , Strange to relate, notwithstanding the frightful wounds the unfortunate man Byrne received, he is still living and is perfectly sensible. He is a native of Limerick, and arived in Sydney many years back With his parents; He has been for many years mining rin this colony, and during thejast seven; years he and: Dandow Bave been mates. It appears that the two Had always -agreed, and on no former [occasion had a hostile word been exchanged "between them. The unfortunate roan Byrne is so fully impressed with the :belief that Dandow was rendered by drink temporarily insane, that when making his will on Wednesday afternoon lie would have directly bequeathed the whole of his property to him, but for the interposition of the solicitor who .drew up j the document, and who informed him, that hy so doing, in the event of his death,, the bequest would;becpme;the property: of .the; Government. On hearing this*.he stated it to be his wish that the property should be willed to another mate, and a clauseinserted that if Dandow were acquitted the; ■property, should revert to/him. r The. unrfortunate man's property consists of a, small amount of cash, two draught horses, a. dray, and casual articles of (inconsiderable value. He has a brother and sister, who keep the Willow Tree E[otel, PiU street,; Sydney. ; Oh' allusion made to the horrid affair yesterday by a4^son who visite^Lhim,; he i stated, '^Wfe ~I 'did not;sifcfc;lie could do such a thing ' to; inc.": jfe is free p^n,r and; converses with but little difficulty. citement prevails in the locality wh^re, the, unfortunate affair happened* Of awulti-j mate recovery there is not the slightest hope; he may linger one or two day* more, but must succumb to the frightful wounds he has received. The man Bandow has been remanded for seven days, pending' the recovery or death of his victim; The two mates, Jasper Fitlock and William Bryant, have been released on bail.—J&wfc Creek Advertiser.
