SPECIAL CATTLE FAIR Newton King Limited report as follows on their cattle fair held at Te Awamutu on Monday, September 11: .A yarding of over 500 head of station cattle were submitted to auction. The majority of the grown cattle came forward in very forward condition and .especially on these competition wa.s exceedingly strong and prices realised gave some idea of the strong demand existing for this class of cattle when values up to £3O were paid for very forward four-year P.A. bullocks. The younger cattle, displaying bleeding and quality, also met with keen competition and enhanced values were secured, making this cattle fair one of the most successful fairs held for many years. Mr. G. O. Bayley, for his line of 75 four-year P.A. bullocks in very forward condition secured prices from £22 5s to £3O, andito average for this line the remarkable price of £25 ss. His two-year steers -sold at values from £l5 10s to £l7 10s. Best three-year steers sold readily from £lB 10s to £22 17. s 6d, with store condition steers selling from £l6 to £l6 ss. Yearling P.A. Steers were keenly sought with a pen of top cattle realising £l3 17s, with others selling from £ll to £l2 12s 6d. With only a limited number of female cattle on offer, competition was keen and two-year P.A. heifers sold from £l4 17s 6d to £l6. Yearling P.A. heifers realised from £9 7.s to £lO 19s, with smaller heifers selling from £7 12s 6d to £8 19s. TE AWAMUTU STOCK SALE Sheep were yarded in medium numbers at the stock sale conducted by Dalgety and Co., Ltd., at Te Awamutu yesterday, and included shorn and woolly sorts which sold on a par with recent prices. Fat bullocks and cows sold well, with store and boner prices holding firm. Yearling Jersey heifers were in quieter demand, while calved and springing cattle were sold on a keener market. A small yarding of fat and store pigs came forward and values were on a par with recent quotations. Sheep: Fat shorn wethers £3 10s, fat b.f. woolly hoggets £2 7s 6d to £4 12 s, fat shorn ewes £3 15s to £3 18s, lighter b.f. woolly hoggets £3 9s to £3 18s, shorn w.f. wether hoggets £2 6s to £2 16s 6d, shorn b.f. hoggets £2 15s 9d to £3 2s. The F.A.C. report their Te Awamutu sale. The offering of beef was smaller than usual and sold to a strong demand with values at a higher level. Fat and boner cows also sold freely at recent high values. The demand remained steady for empty Jersey heifers and values remained firm.
