WAIKATO HOSPITAL

INCREASE IN BOARD membership extra MEMBER FOR HAMILTON The increase in membership of the Waikato Hospital Board from 16 to 17 to give three representatives to Hamilton was suggested in a letter received by the board on Monday from the Department of Health. In the course of a general review of representation on hospital boards being undertaken in anticipation of the coming local body elections it was noticed that the proportion of Hamilton had risen to 2.8, said the letter. The department forwarded a copy of the - schedule for the board’s disi trict showing the proportions for each contributory district based on the 1 latest available figures for rateable , capital values and population. Revaluation of contributory districts in the board’s area was proceeding but some of the districts had yet to be revalued. However, with the possible exception of the Waikato county the proportions were not likely to be materially affected. Waikato County It seemed probable that with revaluation the Waikato county’s proportion would entitle it to retain two representatives. The board wa.s asked to consider a proposal to increase its membership to 17. A copy of the letter and schedule had been forwarded to the Hamilton City Council. The schedule showed the rateable va^ue of the board’s area as ffo’oZn’ 185 * anc * t^le Population is 1d8,280. The board decided to approve the proposal for another member for Hamilton. / lw Ha J? il *? n Members of the board are H. D. Caro (chairman) and the Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Hilda Ross.
