SCOUT NOTES

MONTHLY MEETING REPORTS OF GROUP COMMITTEE (By “Kim”) The Te Awamutu Scout Group committee met recently. The meeting was well attended and was presided over by Mr R. C. Salmond. x It was decided to hold a garden party in October at Alexandra Street. If the occasion is wet the event will be held in a. hall.'This will be biggest event of the year for the: group. Mr Salmond informed the meeting that plans for the Scout hall were in the process of being drawn and he hoped to be able to submit them to the next committee meeting. The Plunket Society will benefit to the extent of £37 7s 3d from a bottle drive made by the Scouts. Reports were given by Group Scouter Deed who intimated that there would be «a district rally in February. Soutmaster Andrews, in a verbal report, said that several of the lads in his pack were preparing for their first class badges. With the drawing near for camping, he considered that more camping equipment was needed. Senior Scouter Roberts reported that his troop was steadily growing in numbers and that all were working for their first class badges. Instructions were being given to them on first aid by Mr G. Carter. The troop had also been out to a week-end camp where it had gained quite a lot cc knowledge. Cubmaster Allen presented a report on behalf of the Colt packs, stating that Miss Ann Burton would be reporting on the Beaver pack in the future and Miss Elaine Arney on the Hunter pack. Mrs Allen stated that she hoped older ones would come along and help Miss Burton with her task of instructing the Beaver pack. Three members of the Hunters pack and two members of the Beavers pack were selected at football trials held in Hamilton and will travel to Auckland to play in the Cub match, Auckland v. Waikato.

The troops hope to be well represented at the fifth annual district boxing tournament which will be held in the Hamilton Technical College Gymnasium. Due to the shortage of Cubmasters there is a growing waiting list of prospective Cubs. At least one more Cubmaster and two assistants are wanted.

During the month one lad was invested and several star tests and badge examinations were passed. One senior Cub from the Hunters pack left with his parents for England. On the eve of Peter’s departure a telegram was sent from all the Cubs wishing him good hunting. Cubmasters and assistants sent a spray of orchids td Peter’s mother, wishing her and her family bon voyage. Christmas parcels are to be sent this month to the 9th Sidcup Pack in Kent, England, who divide the contents and distribute them to the sick" and poor among other packs in Kent.
