FEDERATED FARMERS
INDIGNATION EXPRESSED LOWERING OF COSTS IN FARMING INDUSTRY Dairy farmer delegates at the monthly meeting of the Hamilton Sub-Province of Federated Farmers (Waikato), expressed concern at the recent statements made by leaders of the dairy industry and others. The following remit from the Whatawhata branch was carried: “That this branch expresses indignation at statements by Federated Farmers and dairy industry leaders expressing the necessity foi dairy farmers to lower their costs over which they have no control.” Another remit from Te Kowhai on the same subject to be circulated among blanches with a strong recommendation that it be given the fullest support is: “That Federated Farmers take the strongest objection to any suggestion or proposition that farmers should be paid less than the ascertained cost of production irrespective of the amount in stabilisation accounts. They affirm that the community must meet any deficit until all other industries .stand on their own feet without tariff import controls, etc., with the exception of one or two key industries for defence.”
