MAIN HIGHWAYS MAINTENANCE OTOROHANGA COUNTY EXPENDITURES While discussing the Main Highways maintenance expenditure figures for the first four months of this year, the chairman of the Otorohanga County Council, Mr. J. L. Wallis, stated that the Council was spending much more freely than it had before. Comparison was made of the amounts expended in the first four months of this year with the amounts spent over the whole of last year. fhe estimated maintenance expenditure for the year was £7264, of which £lBl6 was the County share. In the first four months to July 31st of this year, £3500 was expended, out of which, the County share was £875. A total of £5717 was expended over the whole of last year. The expenditure for the first four months of this year on the various main highways in the County, was as follows, with the comparitive figures for the whole of last year in parentheses: Honikiwi, £455 (£959); Mangaorongo, £873 (£744); Ouruwhero, £9l (£749); Pirongia-Ngutunui, £6Ol (£1068); Te Kuiti, £344 (£819); Wharepunga, £1136 (£1378). Of the £5650 estimated for main highways construction, £2764 was expended by the 31st of July. The sum of £lO,OOO was provided for road maintenance and improvements, and £3168 was expended.
