END-OF-SEASON MEETING PAYMENTS TO BE DELAYED ' The Te Awamutu Calf Pool Committee held its final meeting of the year yesterday, when the following members were present, Messrs B. C. O'Connor (chairman), A, E; Bryant, G. L. Daniell, J. T. Young, C. J. Flay, W. R. Burrow, L. H. West, W. Perrin, M. A. Tuck, J. Rea, A. R. Weal, R. R. Eilis and the secretary, Mr J. E. Hammond, Apologies were received from Messrs R. S. Clarke and W. S. Parker. Gratification was expressed at the record collection for the main pool which amounted to 39,944 calves, which together with the out-of season collections of 981 calves, made a grand total of 40,925 calves, an increase of 4.3% over last season. It was stated to be the first time the figure has exceeded the 40,000 mark. Comprehensive figures were presented to members setting out comparisons of collections on the various routes and these were very illuminating. Payouts The chairman said that he regretted very much the fact that payment would not be made until after the Christmas period this year. He pointed out that he thought the Waikato Federation’s selling (executive had obtained excellent results, the final returns would not be available until the holidays commenced which might hold matters up until the end of January. Another contributing factor was the congestion at the works through the larger intake of fat stock. He added that the sale of a large parcel to America at the end of the season did not help to obtain an early clean-up. The chairman and Mr A. E. Bryant reported on the activities of the Waikato Federation. They pointed out, among other things that a total of 283,609 calves was handled, constituting an increase of 29,081 over last year. It was resolved that the price for underweights would be 8s each. The chairman intimated that the final returns for passed calves would show an increase over the previous year and that tanners’ requirements for the whole of New Zeaand showed a reduction of 60,000.
