JAYCEE MEETING
TUFFY BURCHELL WELCOMED HOME A welcome home was extended to Mr Tuffy Burchell by Mr Noel Duncan who was chairman for the evening at the fortnightly luncheon meeting of the Te Awamutu Junior Chamber of Commerce which was held in the Savoy tearooms last Monday night. The welcome was endorsed by acclamation by all the members who were present.
Apologies were received from Jaycees Keith Burgess, Colin O’Brien, A. J. Tailby, J. K. F. Watson, J. Price, Eric Shaw, Arnold Hawthorn, Jim Fitzpatrick and Bill Haycock. Mr R. Finn said that the Federated Farmers had approached the Junior Chamber asking for help from seasonal labour for harvesting. He asked members to tell their friends that the Junior Chamber was co-operating with the Federated Farmers and that if anyone was desirous of working in the hay paddock during the weekends they could do so through the Junior Chamber without any obligation to the Chamber. Mr P. O’Brien stated that the annual golf tournament held by the Junior Chamber last Sunday had been a success.
It was stated that the Junior Chamber was assisting the school baths appeal by /accepting lt was also stated that the water supply for the baths had been assured.
The major portion of the evening was taken up by Mr Burchell in giving an address on his impressions of Germany which he recently toured .while returning from the World Rover Scout Moot which was held in Norway last August. His interesting address was very well received and he was thanked on behalf of the members by Mr Lloyd Lees.
